Mason Advisory's Away Day - Team building at its finest

Date:

October 2020

Well-bein or wellness is the condition of an individual or group. A higher level of well-being means that in some sense the individual's or group's condition is more positive.

The last six months have been challenging for many of us, adjusting to home working, children being unable to attend school, childcare issues, feelings of isolation, and so much more. Working from home during the pandemic has, as we know, had its issues for a lot of people, especially maintaining the work-life balance, which is hard enough to juggle at the best of times.

As a company, we firmly believe that our wellbeing is fundamental to the overall health of our team, and especially so during the pandemic. We wanted to try and give the team a little bit of help towards a healthy work-life balance and decided to get them together in various locations: Cambridge, Chester, Stratford, Windsor, and Harrogate for a team-building event. We knew some of them would be unable to attend these locations, and didn’t want them missing out on the fun so we set up a virtual treasure hunt in the morning and they were able to join us in the afternoon for the other activities, by video link.

Each of the cities and people’s homes were turned into a digital treasure hunt with the brilliant help of Puzzle Duck. This ranged from photo challenges, and a timed race around the cities trying to find clues. The staff connecting virtually, were also involved in a hunt around their houses, trying to find specific items and sending photos as proof. Everyone connected via a link in the afternoon, in several group activities, including a whodunnit, trivia quiz questions and logic conundrums. The day hilariously competitive from start to finish with fun activities, and photographic evidence that will be added to the Mason Advisory Hall of Infamy.

While social distancing was closely observed, it didn’t put a dampener on the Team Away day, as can be seen from the photos taken. Everyone, including the team that had to do the event virtually, had a great day. It was good to be able to see all our colleagues out of the work environment. We did not realise how much we missed each other and look forward to meeting face to face again.

‘It was a big reminder of how important human interaction is to promote positive wellbeing. Not what we would have normally planned for an away day but a real success in the circumstances. Thanks all for embracing the opportunity.’
